Hunting

Seasons are set

If you did not get your license applications in on time, you will have to depend on your luck even more.  Season draw licenses closed on the first of June, and many are awaiting the news of success.

The purchase of a Mountain Lion License will still have to be made by the end of August.  All of Region 2 lion hunting has gone to a permit only drawing, reducing hunting opportunities in southwest Montana.  The hunting with hounds is slowly becoming an endangered sport.  If we are not careful and become more proactive here in Montana we will lose our hunting just like other states have.  We see what happens to lion populations that are not managed, and Montana will surly have problems.  Get involved and fight to keep hunting here in Montana.

Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks are taking comments on the following proposals, and we only have until February 1, 2008 to participate in this process.

    1.    Everyone needs to be aware of the permit only proposal in the Missouri River Breaks hunting districts.

    2.    Mountain Lion hunting will be going to permit only hunting across Montana if we do not stand up and fight for our right to hunt with hounds here in Montana.  Residents and Non residents must join together to fight this proposal.

    3.    Sheep are dieing in the Elkhorn Mountains.  FWP has been playing god with wildlife in this management unit, and it is now turning against them.  Contact FWP and suggest an immediate liberal hunting of sheep in this area to gain some benefit and reduction in waist of this species.

Hunting has been part of Montana long before the days of Lewis & Clark.  Hunting has been a major part of survival here in Montana for many families.  Montana Multiple Use Association is active with Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks to insure that our hunting heritage is preserved, and that our public wildlife remains for the benefit of the people.
